Indigo Restaurant Bermuda

$$, Indian, Chinese, Sushi, European, Italian

UPDATE: Indigo has closed down.

Located in the sleepy Flatts Village of Bermuda, Indigo provides a nice option with its multi cuisine offerings. It serves a range of food including Indian, Chinese, Sushi, European and even Italian specialty. So with such wide range of offerings, it is expected that the restaurant would have a long menu.

In fact once it had some 9-page menu which made it quite difficult to select from such overwhelming number of dishes. Now they have a shorter main menu and you can ask for the long detailed one if you want.

Indigo boasts of having resident chef for each of the specialized kitchen that it runs. We tried Indian cuisine and did meet up with the Indian chef.

Before we tried out the food here, we heard many comments about the restaurant, some even quite negative. Over the last few years or so, I would say that the restaurant has improved both in its services and the quality of food.

Coming to the decor, although the restaurant claims to provide a great fine dining experience, do not expect much out of its look and feel.

It's in an old building and the owner has tried to do his best with the available space keeping the entire decor simplistic and relaxed. Unlike a sophisticated modern restaurant, Indigo has a square formal dining room.

There is a terrace upstairs overlooking the bay and has nice seating arrangements as well. During the summer time, this upstairs back terrace is also used as a dance floor.  Altogether, there are six dining areas including a Sushi lounge.

There is also a demonstration kitchen. The waiters usually ask you about your choice of seating. While you can never compare services in Bermuda with that of the top class restaurants in the U.S., we found the services here quite friendly compared to the island standards and at the same time non-obtrusive.

As I mentioned earlier, they serve wide varieties of food. One of our highlights was the prawn appetizers that was served with Indian flavored cilantro chutney. Grilled chicken served were very tender and tasty as well, and so was the chicken biriyani (rice and chicken cooked with Indian spices).

Some of our friends mentioned that dishes like pan seared rock fish, veal chops, rack of lambs, tenderloin filet and lobster lasagna are also excellent. The cutlery used were all nice and new. Indigo has a well stocked bar and a nice selections of wine.

If there is one negative about this restaurant, that would be the location of the restroom which is in the second floor. But who cares? Just try to avoid the table next to the stairs so that you are not disturbed by people going up and down.

In our view, Indigo provides a great choice of multi cuisine experience in the eastern parishes. Earlier there was hardly any choice of fine dinning in the eastern side of the island. Indigo has nicely filled up that gap.

They accept credit cards. Dress code is smart casual. reservation is recommended.
