Bermuda Marathon Weekend
While it includes several activities like walks and races over three days, the main event is on the last day where a half marathon and a full marathon takes place. Hundreds of runners from both Bermuda and overseas countries participate in this event.
The full marathon is a 13.1 mile course (with two laps or loops). The half marathon runners complete only one lap of the course. Usually the marathons start and end at the HSBC Head Office on Front Street, Hamilton City.
The following schedule of events will give you an idea about the various activities that take place on different days of Bermuda Marathon Weekend.
2014 Schedule of Bermuda Marathon Weekend
This is the 38th anniversary and a three day running event with the following schedule:
Friday, January 17th
KPMG Bermuda Invitational Mile
This is an invitational event. The top 20 fastest finishers at a series of trials will be invited to participate.
Bermuda Triangle Challenge Mile
There will be a KPMG invitational mile race (wave start) for Bermuda Triangle Challenge participants. There is no separate qualification for this mile race.
Saturday, January 18th
HSBC Bermuda 10K and 10K Walk
Runners and walkers start and finish at the National Sports Center in Devonshire.
Sunday January 19th
Both events start and finish on Front Street, Hamilton. This is a 13.1 mile loop course (two loops for the full marathon). Runners will run along both the north and south shores, enjoying spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean with scenes of bright colored pastel buildings, lush greenery and fascinating architecture. The finish line closes at 3pm for the Bermuda Marathon.
The Bermuda Triangle Challenge features runners competing in 3 events in 3 days - the KPMG Invitational Mile on Friday night, Bermuda 10K on Saturday and the Bermuda Marathon or Half Marathon on Sunday. All participants will receive finisher medallions for each race as well as a special Bermuda Triangle Challenge medallion and tee shirt.
Update: 2013 Bermuda Marathon Weekend
Although it was a rainy day, hundreds of runners participated in 2013 event. Zambia’s Jordan Chipangama came first and Russia’s Olga Romanova came second in the Half Marathon. Richard Kessio Kenya again won the full marathon (13.1 miles) in a time of 2:27.08. Both half and full marathon started together from the HSBC Head Office of Hamilton City and ended at the same place. The runners in the full marathon completed two laps of the same course while the half marathon runners completed only one lap.
