Nassau Jitney Bus Routes: All Routes and Where They Go
Public buses that operate in Nassau are known as Jitneys. There are multiple routes and they all operate mostly between 6am to around 7pm. The frequency can be few minutes to 30 minutes or more depending on the time, your location and day of the week.
Which Jitney Do I Take?
Most visitors want one of a handful of destinations. Here is the short answer for each, before the full route list further down. Nassau jitneys are privately operated and routes can change, so treat this as a guide and confirm with the driver before boarding. Drivers will tell you whether their bus serves where you want to go, and locals at the stop will too.
Cable Beach. Take Route 10. This is the route most visitors want. It runs from the downtown area along West Bay Street out to Cable Beach and the western hotels, then back. Route 10A also reaches Cable Beach by a different inland path. If you are staying on Cable Beach and heading into town, you flag Route 10 going the other way.
Downtown Nassau, Bay Street, the Straw Market, and the cruise port. Almost every route passes through the downtown core (Bay Street, Cumberland Street, Navy Lion Road, Frederick Street), so from most neighborhoods you can reach downtown on whatever route serves your area.
The cruise port at Prince George Wharf sits in the heart of this downtown area, so if you arrive by ship and want to use a jitney, you walk into the downtown core and pick up the route going to your destination, most commonly Route 10 for Cable Beach.
Coral Harbour, Lyford Cay, and the airport area. Route 12 serves this western and southwestern part of the island. Note the wording carefully: it covers the airport area, not the airport terminal itself. See the airport note below before relying on this for an arrival or departure.
Fox Hill and Elizabeth Estates (eastern New Providence). Routes 9, 9A, 9B, 17, and 17A serve the Fox Hill area and the eastern estates.
Paradise Island and Atlantis. There is no jitney to Paradise Island. Jitneys are not permitted on the bridges connecting Nassau and Paradise Island. To get there you take a taxi, which pays the one-way bridge toll, or the water taxi from downtown Nassau. Do not plan a Paradise Island trip around the bus.
The airport (arriving or leaving with luggage). There is no bus stop at the Nassau Airport Terminal (I.e. at Lynden Pindling International Airport). If you are arriving in Nassau by flight and want to board a bus on arrival, then you need to walk for 10-15 minutes from the terminal to the main roundabout at John F. Kennedy Drive to catch a bus (#12) to downtown. Although you may not find a proper bus stop on the main road, you can always wave at the driver and stop the bus.
Treat the jitney as not an option for airport transfers. There is no terminal bus stop, and arriving or departing with bags looking for a roadside flag-down is not realistic. Use a licensed taxi from the airport rank or a pre-booked transfer. The jitney is for getting around cheaply once you are settled, not for the airport run.
Anything else. The full route list below is organized by route number with the main area each one serves. If your destination is not a major visitor spot, find the area in the list, or simply tell a driver where you want to go and ask which bus to take. That is what locals do, and it is more reliable than any printed list for a privately run system that changes without notice.
