Rosa’s Cantina Bermuda

$$, Mexican

Located right on Front Street and facing the Hamilton Harbor, Rosa's is the only authentic Mexican restaurant in Bermuda. It’s also relatively less expensive than many of the other restaurants in the island. You will need to climb a few stairs to reach the long dining room.

The atmosphere inside is vibrant as well as relaxed and has a touch of Mexican décor. There is also a balcony with a great view of the harbor. You can also see all the activities of Front Street sitting at the balcony.

In the Mexican menu, there are many popular dishes. For starters, try out the Unbelievable Nachos

In the main courses, a favorite is the Bulky Burrito or Ridiculous Burrito that would have a large flour tortilla filled with cheddar, choice of meat and shrimps baked with lettuce, pico de gallo and salsa. Or you can try Chimichanga which is like the burrito but deep fried. There are Fajitas and Tacos as well.

They also have Texas style dishes like the Texas Roadhouse Ribs served with Texas BBQ sauce or honey garlic. Other popular dishes include Rib and Wing Combo where you get 4 Texas size wings and a half rack of Rosa’s Ribs (this is the one most recommended by Rosa’s), and the Vista Del Mar that has black tiger shrimp and pan fried Mahi in creamy white wine sauce.

You can finish off your meals with desserts like Mexican Banana Split or the Mexican Fried Ice Cream (Vanilla Ice Cream flavored with almonds and cinnamon, rolled in pastry and deep-fried).

Margaritas served by Rosa’s in glasses and pitchers are special and come in different flavors. You also get varieties of Mexican beer. They have a fully stocked bar as well.

Rosa’s Cantina is a kid friendly restaurant and has a kids menu as well.

UPDATE: In 2012, Rosa's Cantina went through a complete makeover. The name was changed to Rosa's (dropping the 'Cantina' from its title) making it now an upscale Mexican restaurant. The interior has also been upgraded and new art work have been put up.

The new head Chef Jaime Cota Sandez has now taken over the menu whose specialty item is fish and the cuisine includes fusion dishes. He loves to make dishes mixing Mexican ingredients with Mediterranean. Some of the new dishes to try includes smoked tuna and Ceviche, carne asada tacos, fajitas with monterey jack cheese and beef tenderloin.

UPDATE: Rosa's has been announced as the official winner of the Bermuda's Best Fish Sandwich 2015 Competition held by Bermuda Tourism Authority. 39 restaurants participated in the competition and Rosa's was voted by the locals and judges as the best for making fish sandwich while considering taste, local flair, presentation and value. The others in the top five are Mama Angie's, Sea Side Grill, Tribe Road Kitchen and Woody's.

The restaurant accepts credit cards. Dress code is smart casual. While reservations are not required, it is recommended for dinner on the week ends.
