Bermuda Marriage License

In order to get married in Bermuda, a marriage license is required. The couple needs to fill up a form called ‘Notice of Intended Marriage’ and send that to the Bermuda Marriage Registry.

The Marriage Registry staff in Bermuda will publish this 'Notice of Intended Marriage' on Bermuda newspapers. Usually, they do it twice in the Royal Gazette - this is the only daily newspaper in Bermuda.

'Notice of Intended Marriage' form is available online at the website of Registrar General of Bermuda (contact information given at the bottom of this page).

Along with the filled up form, you also need to include a fee of $418 (in Bermuda or U.S. dollars) which includes the fee for marriage certificate.

This needs to be done in form of a cashier’s check or bank draft made payable to the Accountant General, Hamilton, Bermuda, or by credit card online. Personal checks are not accepted.

If applicable, copies of final divorce decrees or death certificates must also accompany the form for those previously married and wishing to be re-married in Bermuda. No blood tests or health certificates are necessary.

There is a waiting period of 15 days from the receipt date of the Notice by the Registry before the Registrar General issues the license to marry. Provided no formal objection has been raised to the intended marriage, the license will be issued.

The license to marry remains valid for three months from the date of issue. Which means that the couple needs to plan and get married in Bermuda within 3 months of the license getting issued.

For weddings in the USA, there is a requirement to present social security numbers of both consenting parties. In Bermuda this is not required. But the 'Notice of Intended Marriage' is made completely public.

Blood tests are required by some US states but are not required in Bermuda. These are the basic differences between North American and Bermuda marriage application procedures.

The basic cost for an outdoor wedding can be anywhere between $150 to $250, while a church wedding can cost between $300 and $500. The marriage certificate is usually mailed within one month of the date of marriage.

Note that Marriage Certificate issued by Bermuda Authority is recognized worldwide.
