Top Bermuda Restaurants Serving International Food

What to expect

Over the centuries, Bermuda has become home to many different nationalities. While the British were the first settlers in the island, many from different other countries including the Americans came to the island in search of work. It's natural that there would be diverse influence in Bermuda's culinary offerings.

Influence of Portuguese who have mostly flocked in from Azores has been so sustained and ingrained in the island that virtually all restaurants serving Bermudian cuisine or otherwise would have a Portuguese preparation like red beans in soup with spicy chorizo. In fact you can see such influence even in grocery stores and supermarkets.

Portuguese

However if you really want to experience authentic Portuguese food then visit the tiny eatery Cafe Acoreano located on Washington Street opposite the Central Bus Terminal in Hamilton City. They make traditional bread, cakes, malassadas (i.e. Portuguese doughnuts) etc and have carefully preserved the Portuguese culinary heritage. Every time we visited the place, we found it's packed with Azoreans watching TV playing Portuguese channels. The cafe boasts of being the first Portuguese restaurant in the island. They serve breakfast and lunch daily. Beer like Heineken and hot beverages are available. #2 Washington Street, Hamilton. Phone: (441) 296 0402.

Italian

There is no scarcity of Italian restaurants in the island and in all categories. One of the best and most popular in Hamilton City is Little Venice which also happens to be one of the oldest in the island and originated by an Italian. It's located on Bermudiana road off Front street. There is elegant inside dining as well as upstairs terrace where you can dine al fresco. The owner had later gone ahead and created several other restaurants in the island.

Another prominent and upscale Italian restaurant is Sul Verde which is part of Rosewood Tucker's Point Resort located at Hamilton Parish. The restaurant is located in the golf club and serves rustic Italian fare. They also offer antipasti buffet which includes almost every possible Italian delicacies including their homemade mozzarella. Justifiably, the restaurant claims that they make some of the best pizzas in the island - try out the squid pizza if you like.
