Greenbank Guesthouse and Cottages Bermuda
Category: $ Location: Paget Parish
Run by the Ashton Family for over 50 years, Greenbank is a colonial property located at the waters edge in Paget parish and right on the Salt Kettle Peninsula. It has seven cottages, four rooms, wonderful gardens and spacious lawns. They overlook the water and scenic islands of the Great Sound. The main house is about two hundred years old. The old cedar beams in the house were mostly used as ballast in the old sailing ships.
A reason that Greenbank claims that it's a historic property is one of the cottages here used to be the office of an overseer at a time when salt trading was a major business in the island. The name of the area (Salt Kettle) was given because of the salt trading business.
Greenbank Guesthouse and Cottages
The double rooms are located in the main house. They have coffee makers and fridge. The cottages and large apartments have private entrances and 2 bathrooms each. They can accommodate 3-4 persons and have King/Queen/Twin beds, kitchenettes having heaters, fridge, coffee makers, microwave ovens, toaster etc.
The cottages and apartments also have separate living areas with dining space. Continental breakfast is included in the rates and served in the rooms. There are loungers, umbrellas, chairs and tables provided on the private balconies of the cottages and apartments. Sitting here you get nice view of the water or the garden.
Greenbank received The Hibiscus Merit Award in 2001/2002 by Bermuda Department of Tourism.
My overall opinion
While this not a beachfront property, neither has a pool, it is a quality budget property with many other advantages. One of the biggest advantages is its proximity to the Salt Kettle Ferry dock (minutes stroll) which lets you reach Hamilton very easily and quickly (10 minutes ride).
The south shore beaches are within 10 minutes taxi ride. The property is in a quiet place and main building is a historic colonial house. Overall a great budget option.
