Bermuda Billfish Blast

 
 
Bermuda Billfish Blast is a great fishing sports event held in Bermuda annually. It also serves as the first leg of Bermuda Triple Crown Billfish Championship. The fishing competition takes place over 3 days although with registration, meetings and parties etc the entire event runs for five days. 
 
This is a team event and the team that earns most points from the three fishing days wins the championship. Cash and awards are given out to first, second and third places. There are prizes for teams making largest Blue Marlin catch (by weight), teams with most billfish release points, lady angler, junior angler etc. Valid catches that can earn points to the teams include blue marlin, white marlin, spearfish and sailfish.  
 
 
 
Billfish Blast is designed as a fun competition. While the anglers enjoy and make great efforts in fishing, they also earn valuable points for the overall Bermuda Triple Crown Billfish Championship. There are cash and other prizes. This Billfish Blast fishing tournament also works in concert with the Blue Marlin World Cup championship. Over the past years, Bermuda anglers have won several of this world cup championships. 
 
Team tournament base entry fee is: $3,000 per team. The entry fee includes: 
  • Entry for up to six anglers,  
  • A total of six passes to the kickoff party, weigh-station bar and the awards banquet. 
  • Anyone entered in this event is automatically entered in the Triple Crown Championship. There is no additional entry fee. 
  • Non-angler party passes are available at extra cost.

    How the tournament is typically held day wise

     
    Billfish Blast takes place usually in the beginning of July. 
    Over the past several years, Hamilton Princess Hotel has been the host.  
    Weigh-ins take place at the Barr's Bay Park Waterfront in Hamilton City.  
     
    Day1: Final registration takes place for all teams. Kickoff party is held at the Hamilton Princess Hotel Ballroom from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Captains meeting is held at 7:30 p.m. 
     
    Day2: Fishing day, starts at 8:30am and line out at 4:30pm. This is followed by Open Bacardi Bar at weigh station starting at 4:30pm. 
     
    Day3: Similar to Day2. 
     
    Day4: Similar to Day3. 
     
    Day5: Awards Banquet held between 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the Hamilton Princess Harbourview Ballroom. 
     
     

    Scoring System

     
    The Billfish Blast has similar scoring system as each qualifying event or a leg of the Triple Crown Championship. Check Bermuda Triple Crown Championship to know about the scoring.
