Other than the level of luxury and amenities you are looking for, your choice of hotel would really depend on what attractions you want to be close to. Nassau and Paradise Island are very close to each other and joined by bridges. So you can easily take a cab and go across to one from the other.

Paradise Island is where the famous Atlantis Resorts are located along with their own world renowned water park with high speed slides and river rides, large spread-out aquarium, numerous pools and water areas, shopping arcades etc. If you want to be part of that, then you should choose one of the Atlantis Resort accommodations (there are several hotels in Atlantis Resorts of various price range) or you should choose a hotel in Paradise Island itself.

Note that several hotels in Paradise Island have tie-ups or affiliations with Atlantis and their guests too can enjoy the Atlantis amenities such as water park, aquarium etc. Limited day passes are offered to public including cruise line passengers and other hotel guests so that they too can enjoy the Atlantis complex and most of its offerings. Such passes are available within the resort.

However if you are looking to enjoy Bahamian lifestyle then staying in Nassau would make more sense. Typically tourists heading for Nassau would stay on the famous Cable beach or in downtown Nassau where you can be part of many different local activities and fun, and interact with Bahamians.

It would have been helpful to know that Bahamar guests aren't welcome at water park or aquarium.  Apparently they don't have an agreement with the Atlantis property.  And I thought the Bahamians were so friendly and hospitable. Here we are and unless we want to book a 1 nite stay we can't go.
